American Shakur Stevenson retained his World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title following a unanimous decision victory over Artem Harutyunyan from Germany at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, United States of America (USA) on Sunday morning (South African time).

Judge Lynne Carter scored the fight 116-112, Guido Cavalleri 118-110 and Mark Lyson had Stevenson winning by 119-109.

As a result of the victory, the 27-year-old Stevenson has stretched his record to 22 wins with 10 stoppages while Harutyunyan, who was born in Armenia, dropped to 12 wins (seven knockouts) and two defeats.
