With a place in the semi-finals of the WBC Grand Prix up for grabs, Bekizizwe ‘Dr Sleep’ Maitse leaves for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Saturday ahead of next week’s fight against Iman Lee.

Maitse reached the quarter-finals of the competition after he beat Tanzanian opponent Juma Ramadhan Juma Kikande, who is popularly known as Juma Choki, in June.

Now Maitse will negotiate his way to the semi-finals as he clashes with Lee from the United States of America (USA) at the Global Theatre Boulevard Riyadh City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next Wednesday.

“They are leaving on Saturday and the fight is on Wednesday,” Maitse’s manager Brad Norman said.

With a record of eight wins with three knockouts and a loss, the African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC featherweight champion leaves for Riyadh together former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight titlist Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete, who’s his trainer.

Maitse, the son of former South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu, is rated in sixth position in the SA featherweight division.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Lee, who has won all his 14 fights with eight of his wins coming from knockouts, overcame Hector Munguia Calderon from Mexico and Argentine Juan Manuel Albornoz in the first two rounds of the competition.
