Accompanied by a formidable team, world title hopeful Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke from Sada in the Eastern Cape will leave South Africa as he goes to Mexico in search of glory later this week.
Ngxeke is scheduled to fly out of South Africa for the Central American country together with his trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, cutman Bernie Pailman and Shannon Strydom ahead of his vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title contest against unbeaten Mexican boxer José Manuel Salas Reyes.
The 30-year-old Ngxeke will fulfil his dream of fighting for a world title when he exchanges blows with Reyes in Mexico City on Saturday, 13 December (Sunday, 14 December, South African time).
“All visas have been secured and we are ready to go. We are going to leave on Friday. DeeJay Kriel will join us from Las Vegas,” Nathan revealed.
Ngxeke, the reigning South African bantamweight champion, is rated fourth by the IBF, is eighth in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings and is second in the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
The 23-year-old Reyes, meanwhile, is rated third by the IBF and is ninth in the WBO ratings. Reyes has won all his 16 fights with 10 of those wins coming from stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
