There’s renewed hope in former world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete’s camp as the four-year ban imposed on him by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) in July 2022 has come to an end.
Tete fell foul to anti-doping laws after his urine sample taken after his win over Briton Jason Cunningham in an IBF International and WBO junior-featherweight title fight came back positive for a banned substance, stanozolol, which is a muscle-cutting agent.
“The ban that was imposed by UKAD four years has come to an end. It’s been a horrific four years for Zolani, but finally it has come to an end. It’s been painful,” Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said.
According to Tengimfene, the Mdantsane-born Tete, who celebrated his 38th birthday in March, is expected to make a ring return before the of the year.
“As the management of Tete, we are happy to announce that everything will be going back to where it was some years ago. Zolani Tete is going back to the ring some time in September, beginning of October. Soon, we will announce everything for him. His supporters now must know that Zolani Tete is back. It’s been a long wait,” Tengimfene added.
While he was out in the cold, the former WBO bantamweight and IBF junior-bantamweight champion kept himself busy by training boxers at All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape.- Monwabisi Jimlongo
