Kaine ‘K9’ Fourie is set to travel to Northern Europe for a fight against erstwhile world champion, Eimantas Stanionis, from Kaunas in Lithuania, next month.

Fourie, who is trained by Gert Strydom, is scheduled to face off against Stanionis, a former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion, on Friday, 25 September.

The 31-year-old Stanionis is the same boxer who defeated South African opponent, Jabulani Makhense, on points at the Zalgiris Arena in Kaunas last September. Before that, Stanionis lost to unbeaten American boxer, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title fight in April last year.

“Kaine has signed a contract to fight against Stanionis in a 10 rounds bout in Lithuania next month,” Strydom confirmed.

Fourie is fresh from a third round stoppage victory over Faraday Mukandila Tshibaka from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg, last month. Interestingly, Fourie won his last two fights by third round stoppages.

The 24-year-old Fourie has a professional record of 23 wins with 11 knockouts, two defeats and two draws. On the other hand, Stanionis has 16 victories with nine stoppages and a single loss. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
