Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt is disappointed and it’s easy to figure out the source of his disappointment as Amakhosi lost to their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates for the third time this season.
The Buccaneers beat Chiefs 2-1 in a DStv Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday. Pirates’ goals were scored by Thembinkosi Lorch and Siphesihle Ndlovu while Daniel Cardoso netted for Amakhosi.
Before the match, Pirates had already beaten Chiefs twice. They beat Chiefs 5-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals on the MTN8 earlier this season. Bucs won 3-0 and 2-0 in the first and second leg respectively.
“I’m disappointed. We should have won the match. I thought we played very well, we had more than enough chances to win the game. We were unfortunate to lose the game,” Hunt said.
“It’s a step back. Every time you lose a match is a step back, points wise and moral wise.”
Having lost to Pirates, Hunt is happy that he is going to have the whole week to prepare his team for their Nedbank Cup first round match against GladAfrica Championship side Richards Bay FC at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec next Sunday.
Meanwhile, Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer has s different view about Saturday’s Soweto derby.
“First half, I think it was good. After scoring we had a big chance, but we didn’t score it, that made me a bit upset. Kaizer Chiefs were playing long balls in the box, it was not easy to defend. It was a good team effort and we deserved the three points,” Zinnbauer said.
