AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy has praised Bloemfontein Celtic for giving Usuthu a run for their money during the the Durban club’s 4-3 win at King’s Park on Tuesday afternoon.
McCarthy said that Phunya Sele Sele gave as much as they got during the match, which they lost in the dying minutes.
Tapelo Xoki scored a brace with the other goals coming from Augustine Mulenga and Siyethemba Sithebe. Harris Tchilimbou netted a brace for Celtic and Victor Letsoalo scored the other goal.
“It’s been interesting, it’s been exciting, the drama, the everything. I’m just overly happy we managed to come away with the three points we deserved to get even from the first match we played against them,” McCarthy said.
“Bloemfontein Celtic, they are very open, very attack minded. They make you play your football. They make you come at them and they come at you. If your defence is not water tight you are gonna end up conceding.”
The former Cape Town City coach did not hide his concerns over the manner in which they conceded goals.
“We conceded three goals something we want to work on. If we are to challenge the bigger teams we can’t concede three goals the way that we did after cruising in the match. I’m just grateful that we were able to see it through and in a dramatic fashion we ended up getting all three points,” said McCarthy.
