Royal AM coach John Maduka is satisfied with how his team started their match against SuperSport United, which they won 2-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Sunday.
The Durban side took the lead in the seventh minute through Mxolisi Macuphu’s goal and they were nearly punished a few minutes later. However, they survived after their goalkeeper Patrick Nyame saved Jamie Webber’s penalty in the 10th minute.
“Look, we managed to start the game well. We got the goal, after we got the goal we stopped playing. And because we stopped playing, we allowed them to play,” Maduka said.
“They did create a couple of chances, including the penalty. I think we must play going forward if we get a goal. Second half, we came back strongly and I think again organisation in defence was super because it’s not easy to defend against SuperSport.”
Matsatsantsa a Pitori coach Kaitano Tembo, meanwhile, refused to blame his players for losing the match to the visitors.
“To be honest, I can’t really fault my players. We battled, we worked very hard. I thought we dominated the game. Lack of killer instinct is really affecting us at the moment. In terms of performance, I thought the guys worked really hard,” Tembo said.
The Zimbabwean-born coach added that missing the penalty had a negative effect on his players as they dropped their heads after the miss.
