Former South African flyweight champion Thembelani Nxoshe will fight for the first time in more than 18 months when he laces his gloves next month.
Even though contracts are yet to be signed, Ink Sport can reveal that Nxoshe, who hasn’t stepped into the ring since his loss to Lusizo Manzana at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Gqebera in April last year, is going to fight against former world champion DeeJay Kriel.
With a record of 19 victories (six knockouts), nine losses and a draw, Nxoshe will be out to revive his career after losing his last two fights.
Before meeting Manzana, Nxoshe lost to Mexican Ulises Lara in a World Boxing Council (WBC) International flyweight title fight at the Mdantsane Indoor Sport Centre in October 2018.
Nxoshe will be coming up against a formidable opponent in Kriel, who is a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight titlist.
The 27-year-old Kriel hasn’t fought in almost two years and will be fighting for the first time since his stoppage loss to former IBF junior-flyweight champion Felix Alvarado from Nicaragua in January last year.
