Ageing South African champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke and Phumelela ‘Truth’ Cafu are going to collide yet again nine months after their first meeting.

The first fight ended in SA flyweight champion Chauke from Tembisa retaining his title following a draw at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in March.

The second showdown, which is scheduled for Friday, 23 December, between the two boxers was announced at a Xaba Promotions press conference in Johannesburg on Wednesday. Chauke will be challenging Cafu for his World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title.

“I know he cannot make it in the flyweight division thus I’m going after him. He has no place to hide. I’m moving up just to fight him at junior-bantamweight. This is an advantage to me because I don’t have to drop weight,” the 37-year-old Chauke said.

That the two boxers are going to face off again means that Chauke will have to move up to the junior-bantamweight division. Already, the 24-year-old Cafu has fought three times in the junior-bantamweight. Duncan Village-born Cafu’s last three fights – Lazarus Namalambo, Ben Mananquil and Tinashe Majoni – ended in stoppages.
