Kevin Lerena worked very hard and pushed himself to earn an opportunity to challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) bridgerweight title holder Lukasz Rozanski.

This followed after Lerena defeated Ivory Coast-born Belgian boxer Ryad Mehry by a unanimous decision to win the WBC Silver bridgerweight belt at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday evening.

All three judges – Eddie Pappoe (118-110), Daniel van der Wiele (115-113) and Thabo Spampool (116-112) nodded in agreement giving the Johannesburg-born Lerena the fight.

Meanwhile, Keaton Gomes successfully defended his South African heavyweight title when he stopped former champion Joshua Pretorius in the fourth round in the main supporting bout.
