More than seven months after she won the South African female lightweight title, champion Bonita van Jaarsveldt is now scheduled to make her first defence in May.
Van Jaarsveldt, who dethroned Raider Muleba at Vodaworld in Midrand in September last year, clashes against former holder of the same title Kholosa Ndobayini at the Kliprivierberg Recreation Centre, Kibler Park, in Johannesburg on Friday, 24 May.
It’s more like Van Jaarsveldt will be seeking revenge after she was defeated by Qumbu-born Ndobayini at the Meropa Sun Casino in Polokwane in September 2021.
This is going to be Ndobayini’s first fight since she lost the national title to Muleba under controversial circumstances in Tzaneen in November 2022.
Meanwhile, this is the same tournament where Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe will fight against Mexican boxer Gabriela ‘La Bonita’ Sanchez Saavedra in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental flyweight title.
