Promoters who owe Boxing South Africa (BSA) are in for a rude awakening as the board of the regulatory body has decided that anyone who owes money must pay or forget about being licensed.
It’s a well known fact that a number of prominent promoters are among the culprits who owe BSA more than R6 million in sanctioning fees.
In a statement on Monday morning, BSA said: “The PFMA No.1 of 1999, Section 51 (1) (b) states that the accounting authority must take effective and appropriate steps to collect all revenue due the to the public entity concerned. It is against this background that the board resolved to enforce payment of sanctioning fees owed to Boxing SA and promoters owing are expected to pay 30% of their debt upfront and further make necessary arrangements to pay off the remaining debt.
“Subsequently, the PFMA No. 1 of 1999, Section 51 (1) (d) further states that the accounting authority must comply with any tax, levy, duty, pension and audit required hence all promoters must be tax compliant with SARS and their companies active with CIPRO.”
The huge amounts owed by promoters have resulted, in a way, in BSA going cap in hand, begging the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for a bail out in order for the regulator to be able to pay staff salaries between January and March this year.
