Yet another Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Boyiya fight has been moved to another date after it was originally scheduled for this coming Friday in Gaborone, Botswana.

A new date has now been confirmed for the former South African champion’s fight against Botswana national Kutlwano Ogaketse. This vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa junior-welterweight title fight will take place at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) on Friday, 29 May.

Trained by Lonwabo Witbooi, Boyiya from Amalinda in KuGompo City is itching for action as his SA junior-welterweight title fight against Sibusiso Zingange got postponed a number of times until it was cancelled last year.

In a letter to Boxing South Africa (BSA), Scud Missile Promotions boss Thuso Khubamang said: “Scud Missile Promotions wishes to formally inform Boxing South Africa that, following careful consideration and consultation with our key stakeholders, we have taken a decision to postpone the upcoming IBO All-Africa super-lightweight championship, which was scheduled to take place on 1st May 2026 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre.”

According to the letter, the postponement came as a result of the Botswana Television as well as the Ministry of Sport and Arts being committed to organising and hosting the World Athletics Relays scheduled for this coming Saturday and Sunday in Gaborone.

“Given the national significance of this international athletics event and the operational demands it places on key stakeholders and infrastructure, it has become necessary to reschedule our tournament to ensure optimal planning, participation and delivery at the highest standard,” Khubamang further said.

Boyiya, a former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion, has not fought since his points decision win over Lindokuhle Dlamini at the Orient Theatre, KuGompo City, in November 2024. -Monwabisi Jimlongo
