A date has been set for the funeral service and burial of the late former world champion Unathi ‘Showtime’ Myekeni, who passed away on Monday last week.

Myekeni is going to be laid to rest in Phumlani village outside KuGompo City after a funeral service, which is going to be held at the local Hall this coming Saturday.

The erstwhile World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-featherweight and featherweight titlist succumbed to a battle against cancer.

She was the younger sister of the late Mhikiza Myekeni, a former World Boxing Council (WBC) International flyweight, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and SA junior-flyweight champion. Mhikiza also succumbed to a cancer battle in August 2022.

One of the first females to turn professional in South Africa, Myekeni registered 12 wins with five stoppages, five defeats and a draw in the 12 years she spent inside the ring.

Meanwhile, the Ubuntu Boxing Fraternity (IBF) and fight fans are going to visit Myekeni’s family in Phumlani at 13h00 on Tuesday.
