Having won his last three fights against Eastern Cape boxers, unbeaten Beaven Sibanda from Zimbabwe is aiming to beat yet another boxer from the boxing mad province.
Harare-born Sibanda is pencilled to collide with Siyakholwa Kuse in a vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver minimumweight title fight at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Friday, 6 December. This fight is going to determine who’s the best minimumweight boxer between the two.
Already, Sibanda has beaten three Eastern Cape boxers – Siphamandla Baleni, Mthokozisi Ngxaka and Sandile Wessels. Now Sibanda aims to continue his good run against Eastern Cape boxers as he faces Kuse.
“I’m happy that I will be fighting for a WBC belt. The goal is to get the belt whether I fight against a South African or a Filipino boxer. I have beaten Eastern Cape boxers before and I want to do the same in spectacular fashion. People are gonna see that on December 6,” Sibanda said.
This bout against the hard-hitting Kuse from Mdantsane is a fight, which has been called for by many boxing followers in South Africa. And no doubt, this fight is going to divide the South African boxing community.
Initially, Sibanda and Kuse were due to have fought on the 15th of June. However, that shootout never took place after Kuse’s handlers decided not to fight against someone who was not rated by the world’s top four boxing bodies.
Now Sibanda, who has won all his seven fights with two of those victories coming from stoppages, is rated 15th by the WBC while Kuse is eight places above him.
On the other hand, Kuse has registered seven victories with four knockouts, two defeats and a draw. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
