Orlando Pirates’ late fight back was not enough as Magesi FC beat them 3-2 in a Carling Knockout last-16 encounter at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.

The newcomers opened the scoring through Delano Abrahams’ headed goal in the 33rd minute. Six minutes later, things went from bad to worse for the Buccaneers when their defender Thabiso Sesane scored an own goal following Tshepo Kakora’s cross from the right.

Edmore Chirambadare scored Magesi’s third goal in referee’s added time. Chirambadare netted from a rebound after Bucs goalkeeper Sipho Chaine had saved his penalty following Sesane’s foul on Deolin Mekoa inside the box.

Pirates launched a fight back in the last 10 minutes of the match and their efforts were rewarded when Kabelo Dlamini netted their first goal four minutes from full-time and Evidence Makgopa’s 89th minute strike made it 3-2.
