England’s Lionesses overcame a game Banyana Banyana 2-1 in an international friendly match at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Tuesday evening.
The Lionesses took the lead through their captain Leah Williamson, who was unmarked, in the 12th minute. It took the Lionesses 11 minutes to add another goal from Grace Clinton’s header following a cross from Chloe Kelly.
Banyana started the second half on the back foot and they surprisingly scored through Thembi Kgatlana, who halved the deficit in the 55th minute following a Williamson blunder. Kgatlana thought she had equalised in the 73rd minute only for her goal to be judged offside by the assistant referee.
Meanwhile, this defeat came after Banyana were mercilessly beaten 5-0 by Denmark in Aalborg on Friday last week.
