Mthokozisi Ngxaka brought joy to boxing followers at his Mthatha backyard when he dished up a superb performance before he stopped Siphesihle Sityo in the ninth round at a BBB Promotions tournament on Sunday evening.
As a result of the technical knockout victory, Ngxaka, who sent the Mthatha Hall into a frenzy, became the new Eastern Cape minimumweight champion.
Duncan Village-born Sityo started well in the first two rounds, however, things changed from the third round as Ngxaka seemed to have warmed up, beating his opponent at will.
Meanwhile, former South African bantamweight title contender Lusizo Manzana returned to action with a third round win over Siphosethu Mhlahlo from Chintsa in the main supporting bout.
This was the Mthatha-born Manzana’s first fight since he underwent a left shoulder operation earlier this year.
