It’s definitely not the way Ryno ‘The Lion’ Liebenberg wanted to go out in his last professional fight as he lost to Russian boxer Fedor Chudinov in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Gold super-middleweight title contest at the Sibur Arena in St Petersburg, Russia, on Friday evening.
Lacing his gloves for the last time as he retires from boxing, Krugersdorp-born Liebenberg was no match for the Russian.
Chudinov dominated during the fight and even dropped the 37-year-old Liebenberg in the ninth round. Liebenberg was saved by the bell as Chudinov wanted to finish him off.
The judges’ score cards read 116-111, 119-108 and 118-109 in favour of the 33-year-old Chudinov.
