The president of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Danny Jordaan has congratulated Kaizer Chiefs after they reached the CAF Champions League final.
Amakhosi defied all the odds and beat Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club 1-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals to set up a clash against Al Ahly from Egypt. The Red Devils reached the final after they whipped Esperance Sportive de Tunis from Tunisia 4-0 on aggregate
The final is going to be played at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday, 17 July.
“This win is massive. This has been a fairy-tale by Kaizer Chiefs in the competition,” Jordaan said.
“On behalf of the football family, I would like to say congratulations to Chiefs players, the coaching staff and management. This has been a team effort and this win has lifted the spirit of the entire nation. South Africa is in the midst of a devastating coronavirus pandemic and the win really gave the country something to shout about.”
This is the first time Chiefs are going to play in a Champions League final while it is Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane’s third.
