It was a positive start for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco as they beat Comoros Islands 2-0 in an opening match of the tournament played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday evening.
Brahimi Diaz netted the Atlas Lions’ goal 10 minutes into the second half after Comoros defenders left him alone inside the box and Ayoub El Kaabi’s overheard kick made it 2-0 in the 74th minute.
The Moroccans missed out on taking an early lead as Soufiane Rahimi’s penalty was saved by Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Marc Ahmed Pandor in the 11th minute. Morocco were awarded a penalty by match referee Jean-Jacques Ndala from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after Romain Saïss had fouled Brahim Diaz.
