The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon roared to a 1-0 win over The Panthers of Gabon in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament opener at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir in Morocco on Wednesday evening.
A sixth minute goal by 22-year-old UD Levante forward Karl Edouard Blaise Etta Eyong in only his fourth cap helped the five-time African champions overcome the Gabonese.
Elsewhere, the Stallions of Burkina Faso scored twice in referee’s added time as they defeated Equatorial Guinea 2-1. Marvin Anieboh opened the scoring for the National Thunder before Georgi Minoungou and Edmond Tapsoba netted for the Stallions.
On the other hand, Algeria’s Desert Foxes whipped Sudan 3-0 with a brace from Riyad Mahrez and a strike by Ibrahim Maza.
Meanwhile, a goal from Amad Diallo was enough to give AFCON defending champions Ivory Coast a 1-0 win over Mozambique’s Mambas.
