Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke will return to action five months after his failed bid to win a world title following his seventh round stoppage loss to Mexican opponent Jose Salas Reyes in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title fight in Mexico City, Mexico.
Sada-born Ngxeke will dust the cobwebs and face Jonas Mateus from Namibia in a 10 rounds international bantamweight bout at the Wild Coast Sun in Bizana, Eastern Cape, on Saturday, 25 April.
This is going to be the fifth time the Namibian faces a South African opponent having lost to Sikho Nqothole, Yanga Sigqibo and Gideon Buthelezi before. His only win over a South African boxer was against Makazole Tete in July 2018.
Ngxeke’s fight against Mateus is going to be the main supporting bout to the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female junior-lightweight title contest between South African champion Bernice ‘The Badger’ Ferreira and Adoidya Mimu from Malawi.
“From the beginning we said we weren’t here to play small. To be on our third card and already hosting a world title fight, especially for someone like Bernice, is a reflection of the kind of platform we’re building,” Chichi Nyama from Fighters Club said.
And her colleague Terry-Anne Hart added: “I feel proud, but more than that, I feel focused. This is exactly what Fighters Club was to do, and that’s to raise the standard of boxing in South Africa and create a platform that’s both competitive and meaningful.”
Thema Zuma, who lost to unbeaten Zimbabwean Monica Mkandla at the Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, last weekend clashes with Kabisile Tshabalala and Jarred Silverman faces Khumbulani Mdletshe.
Elizabeth Ndlovu from Zimbabwe will be up against Asanda Mkhwanazi with Ricardo Shaw facing Libuyile Gawuza while Akshay Singh squares up against Cebelihle Mpanza. Jordan Peace meets Thabiso Makhanya while Jo-Lee van Tonder faces Lerato Malefane.
