Kay B Promotions and Namibian promotional outfit Kambinda Boxing Promotion (KBP) have signed a co-promotion agreement, which is hoped will benefit boxers from both South Africa and Namibia.
The three-year co-promotion agreement was signed after more than a week of negotiations between Kay B’s Mzi Booi and KBP boss Jose Kambinda. Booi and Kambinda broached the idea of a partnership when Namibian boxer Errikie Errikie came to South Africa to fight against Lonwabo Sizani recently.
Errikie stopped Sizani from Mdantsane in the fourth round during their vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Youth junior-lightweight title fight at Guild Theatre in KuGompo City almost two weeks ago.
Now, one of the key objectives of the agreement is to elevate boxers from Walvis Bay and broader Namibia in the South African and international boxing circuit.
“Provide KBP boxers with regular international bout exposure and world rating opportunities. Also develop a sustainable boxer exchange and training programme between South Africa and Namibia,” reads the agreement.
Part of the agreement is that there will be quarterly boxer exchange programmes where KBP will provide accommodation, meals, transport and gym access when hosting Kay B boxers in Namibia. Kay B will do likewise when hosting KBP boxers in South Africa.
Also a Kay B boxer or trainer will spent three days of mentorship and training clinics in Namibia. Namibian boxers have had an upper hand against their South African opponents, especially when they fight in Namibia. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
