With Chris Thompson and Shaun Potgieter set to go toe-to-toe for the second time in a year when they meet on Saturday evening, boxing trainer Shannon Strydom has predicted yet another stoppage win for Thompson.

The latter will be defending his South African heavyweight title against Potgieter at the Top Arena in Carnival City, Brakpan. This is the same venue where Thompson reclaimed the SA heavyweight crown via a seventh round technical knockout win over Potgieter in May last year.

“People must expect an explosive, absolute war. South African boxing fans are in for a treat. Both guys want to win. Both guys are hungry. In the end, Chris Thompson will retain the SA title. He will stop Shaun,” Strydom said.

Thompson, a two-time SA heavyweight champion, goes to the fight with a record of 16 victories, nine knockouts, three defeats and a draw. Potgieter, on the other hand, will enter the ring carrying a record of 10 wins and seven stoppages. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
