Shaun Potgieter reclaimed the South African heavyweight title after he turned the tables and defeated Chris Thompson at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in Brakpan, on Saturday evening.
A right hand thrown by Potgieter early in the seventh round found its intended target and after that, he decked Thompson with a right uppercut. It became clear that the fight was soon going to be over as Potgieter decked Thompson twice in the same round and that was the end of the proceedings.
And this was sweet revenge for Potgieter, who was stopped in the seventh round by Thompson at the same Brakpan venue in May last year. Potgieter is now a two-time SA heavyweight champion.
