Mauricio Sulaimán, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), landed in South Africa on Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s championship bout between reigning WBC minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem from the Philippines and Siyakholwa Kuse at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

Sulaimán was welcomed in South Africa by Golden Gloves chief executive officer Rodney Berman, Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie, Boxing South Africa (BSA) board chairperson Ayanda Khumalo, BSA CEO Tsholofelo Lejaka and Dr Peter Ngatane, WBC fight supervisor.

McKenzie presented Sulaimán with a special commemorative belt in recognition of his embodiment of ubuntu, unity and prosperity through boxing. On Thursday, Sulaimán, who’s visiting South Africa for the first time, will engage with Boxing SA stakeholders during the Champions Legacy Dialogue at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg.
