Boxing fans are expected to converge at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City to watch the curtain coming down on Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni’s career since he made his professional debut with a win over Luyanda Vumazonke in May 2010.
KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni’s last dance will see him trading blows with Chumani Tunzi. Ndongeni’s fight against Tunzi will come six days away from reaching 16 years as a professional boxer.
And in almost two decades of exchanging blows with other boxers, Ndongeni has won 33 fights with 19 of those wins being knockouts against eight losses.
In the 16 years as a professional boxer, Ndongeni worked with a number of promoters, managers and trainers. In the process, Ndongeni held the SA and World Boxing Federation (WBF) International junior-lightweight titles.
He also won the SA, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and WBF lightweight crowns as well as the African Boxing Union (ABU) junior-welterweight title. And for his last fight against Tunzi, Ndongeni will be ushered into war by Lonwabo Witbooi.
Meanwhile, Mdantsane’s Nhlanhla Tyirha clashes with Nhlakanipho Kunene from Dundee in a vacant IBO mini-flyweight title contest with Siseko Teyise facing Filipino boxer Neel Jacamos in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-flyweight bout.
