Following his failure to reclaim the South African junior-bantamweight title at the Orient Theatre in KuGompo City in December last year, Lwando Mgabi is returning to the same venue as he gets into action next month.
After he was stopped in the fourth round by reigning SA junior-bantamweight champion Moyisi Booi in his last fight, Mgabi has since moved up two divisions as he will be fighting in the junior-featherweight division against Thabang Mofula.
“I will be making a come back and will fight against Thabang Mofula in a junior-featherweight bout,” the former national champion, who is based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, revealed.
Already, the Duncan Village-born Mgabi is rated in eighth spot in the junior-featherweight division as per the current Boxing South Africa ratings.
Meanwhile, Mofula from Kanana in Klerksdorp, North West, snapped a three-fight losing streak when he defeated Doron Zinman on points in his last fight in April.
Mofula is now trained by Charrit Mukondeleli having been under Bernie Pailman’s guidance before. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
