Kaya Mlata’s opponent has been changed and he’s now set to fight against Zimbabwean boxer Hassan Osman Milanzi at the Makers Landing, V and A Waterfront, Cape Town, on Saturday, 15 August.

Initially, Mlata was scheduled to face Argentine boxer Francisco Gopar and then Tanzanian opponent Luqman Ngambongali in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Africa junior-featherweight title. Now the unbeaten Mlata is facing Milanzi in a WBC Silver junior-featherweight title fight at the same Cape Town venue.

“Hassan Milanzi is my new opponent now and we will fight against each other for the WBC Silver title,” the WBC Youth junior-featherweight champion said.

Mlata, who won the WBC Youth title following a points victory over Congolese boxer Ardy Katompa in October last year, will go to the Milanzi fight following a sixth round stoppage win over former South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani Mahlangu in April. KwaBhaca-born Mlata has an impressive record of 10 victories with five of those wins coming from knockouts.

On the other hand, Milanzi from Gweru in Zimbabwe, has 15 wins with nine stoppage, four defeats and a draw. And this is going to be the 28-year-old Milanzi’s first visit to South Africa since losing to Lerato ‘Lights Out’ Dlamini at the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino, Gqeberha, in April 2021. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
