Mthobisi Buthelezi is hoping that his boxer, Sabelo Ndwandwe from Melmoth in KwaZulu-Natal, will cap the year with yet another win as he will challenge reigning South African featherweight champion, Lindelani Sibisi, on Friday, 11 December.
Ndwandwe is on a roll, having dethroned International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa champion, Lindokuhle Khuzwayo, when he handed him his first career loss in July. Already, Ndwandwe, who has five wins with one knockout, has won both his fights this year.
“About the Sibisi’s fight, we respect him, he’s a great fighter in his own way. But we are not worried about him. We are focused on what we are going to do to him on the 11th of December,” Buthelezi remarked.
“Yes, he’s a tough cookie to crack, but we’ve cracked a lot of tough cookies just like him before. He must bring his A game because that’s exactly what we are bringing.”
Meanwhile, Sibisi successfully defended his national title when he outpointed Bongani Fule from Makhanda at the Jan Smuts Stadium, KuGompo, in May. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
