Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and his adversary, Regie ‘The Filipino Phenom’ Suganob, met for the first time on Wednesday since July 2023 as they are counting days before Saturday’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout at the Bohol Wisdom Gym, Tagbilaran, in the Philippines.

Nontshinga won via a unanimous points decision when the two antagonists met during an IBF junior-flyweight title defence at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in KuGompo City.

“I came here with love and respect, but I am not here for a holiday. I promise to give the boxing fans from Bohol a fight that they will never forget,” Nontshinga said.

The two-time world champion added: “As I said, I came here with love, but remember, I won both my world titles in Mexico, which was also hostile territory. I feel no pressure, but I can assure you that my hand will be raised on Saturday.”

The winner of Saturday’s fight will get an opportunity to challenge whoever wins between IBF junior-flyweight champion, Thanongsak Simsri, from Thailand and Filipino boxer Mark Vicelles. Simsri and Vicelles are scheduled to meet in Japan on Saturday, 26 September.
