South African Under-23 national team coach David Notoane has described Mexico as very difficult opponents.
This comes after the Mexicans hammered the SA Under-23s 3-0 in a Tokyo Olympics Group A match at the Sapporo Dome in Japan on Wednesday.
“Our game against Mexico was very disappointing, especially in the first half. We were not really in the game,” Notoane admitted.
“We didn’t really push Mexico. We knew we were playing against a very efficient team, a team that is well drilled in their patterns of play in attack. A team that was very, very strong.”
The former SuperSport United and Santos striker also lamented the mistakes his boys committed during the match.
“We made those two mistakes from central areas. I thought in the second half we managed to get a bit of life, a bit of self-belief, trying to get back into the game. And unfortunately we conceded the third goal,” Notoane said.
Notoane’s team lost all their three games to the hosts Japan (1-0), France (4-3) and Mexico.
