Gavin Hunt believes that it was a team effort, which helped his club Chippa United beat Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday afternoon.
Veluyeke Zulu, who joined the Gqeberha-based side a few days ago, scored on debut in the 16th minute.
“I thought it was gonna be a difficult game because of our situation. We are not having players available. Seven or eight from the starting 11 not there,” the Chilli Boys coach said.
“We couldn’t make any changes really in the front area. But I knew we can obviously be organised. Everybody stuck to the plan. To start with three points, we need to build on that. It’s not gonna be easy, for sure. Good team effort. I thought everybody did well.”
The 57-year-old coach insisted that the Chilli Boys are nowhere near what he wants them to be.
“The way I want to play is not the way we played. It’s about getting points. People don’t care how you play. You can play beautiful football, but you need points to stay in the league,” he said.
“It’s not a social game, it’s a professional game. We will do what we have to do, sometimes it won’t be pretty.”
Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys are going to welcome defending DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Tuesday (17h00).
The Brazilians will go to the match following a 1-0 win over AmaZulu in Pretoria on Friday evening.
