It was a bad start for Banyana Banyana as Tanzania’s Twiga Stars stunned them with a 2-1 win in a Group B opening fixture of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, on Monday evening.
The Twiga Stars shot to the lead when Diana Msewa beat Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini with a low shot in the 31st minute.
Bambanani Mbane netted for Banyana on referee’s sdded time to make it 1-1 at the end of the first half. And Hasnath Ubamba scored for the Twiga Stars towards the end of the match.
Meanwhile, Banyana are now going to play against Ivory Coast in their second group stages match at the same Casablanca venue on Friday evening.
