Senekal-born boxer Anthony Maloisane, who was based in Gauteng, has passed away. He was 30.
Maloisane, an African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC junior-lightweight champion, passed away on Christmas day.
The sad news of the boxer’s death was confirmed by his promoter Lebo Mahoko of Dream Team Promotions.
“We just learned with shock the sudden passing of Anthony ‘Pitbull” Maloisane on Christmas day. As Dream Team Promotions, we are deeply hurt and in disbelief. We were involved in guiding his boxing career,” Mahoko said.
Maloisane, who beat Romeo Makwakwa from Malawi to win the ABU belt in December 2020, last fought when he lost to Sibusiso Zingange at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg in September.
He once challenged current South African junior-lightweight titlist Phila Mpontshane and lost in East London in October 2018.
Maloisane had a professional record of 14 victories with eight knockouts, six losses and a draw.
