Proteas coach Mark Boucher is happy with how his players responded during the two-Test series against Sri Lanka.

The Proteas whitewashed the Sri Lankans 2-0 after beating them by an innings and 45 runs in the first Test played in Centurion and defeating them by 10 wickets in second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

This was a crucial win for the Proteas as they moved two places from eighth to sixth on the ICC World Test Championship table.

‘‘I was very happy with how the guys responded. We will keep trying to improve, we will try to do this as best as we can,’’ Boucher said.

With fans still not allowed to attend matches in South Africa, the Proteas and Sri Lanka played in front of empty in both Tests.

‘‘With the level of intensity, always tough especially when you play at home,’’ said Boucher.

The two Test matches showed cricket followers a number of positives from the Proteas camp. And Boucher was impressed with Wiaam Mulder’s performance.

Mulder picked up five wickets and conceded 108 runs in the 32 overs he bowled in Centurion. He knocked 36 runs off 63 deliveries.

He then went on to claim four wickets and leaked 77 runs after bowling 20 overs in the second Test and managed to score seven runs from 17 balls.

‘‘Wiaan was fantastic, Wiaam was always there. To have a guy like Wiaam, who is very young, the talent is there. He’s so keen to learn.
His attitude is good. We haven’t really seen his batting side as well, batting at number seven,’’ said Boucher.
