Siya Kolisi is satisfied with the manner in which the Springboks acquitted themselves during their 27-9 win over the British and Irish Lions in the second Test played at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.
With the British and Irish Lions having led 9-6 at the end of the first half, the Boks came back stronger in the second stanza to win the match and make it 1-1 going to the series decider next Saturday.
“That was special. Exactly what we needed last week. It’s been a tough week for us as a group. For me as a leader, it’s been the toughest week I ever had to face with everything,” the Boks captain said.
“I’m grateful to the management, the coaches that we have for making us focus on the mistakes that we made. That’s all we did. I’m grateful to the other leaders in the group.”
The 2019 World Cup-winning captain added that he was also grateful that they managed to stand their own against the British and Irish Lions.
Meanwhile, British and Irish Lions skipper Wyn Jones admitted that they didn’t have a good game, especially in the second half.
“The aerial battle we came second best in the second half. Obviously, disappointed today,” Jones said.
The two sides are going to meet in the third and final Test match at the Cape Town Stadium next Saturday
