Boxing South Africa (BSA) is not ready to deal with Sabelo Ngebiyana and Sihle Jelwana.
This comes after the two boxers ‘sneaked’ out of South Africa to go fight in Russia on Saturday, 7 August without being cleared by BSA.
Ngebiyana lost to Armenian boxer Narek Abgaryan while Jelwana drew with Rufat Huseynov, a novice from Azerbaijan, at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Acting BSA chief executive officer Cindy Nkomo confirmed that they have written to RCC Boxing Promotions’ seeking more information regarding Ngebiyana and Jelwana’s participation in German Titov’s tournament.
“There’s a process in everything we need to do. We are aware that Ngebiyana and Jelwana were fighting overseas,” Nkomo said.
“We have written to RCC Boxing Promotions to get clarity on that and I think it’s important that we follow processes of inquiry before we even get to discuss what will be done with the boxers. Yes, we have been informed of their participation in Russia. Like any other process, we need to write to RCC and we have done that.”
The BSA boss insisted that now is not the ‘right’ time to speak about the matter.
“At the right time we will also engage the boxers and then take it from there. I can’t speak right now to say what will happen because we don’t have any facts at the moment,” Nkomo concluded.
