Banyana Banyana lifted the Aisha Buhari Cup after they beat the Nigerian Super Falcons 4-2 at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos on Tuesday evening. 

Banyana Banyana’s goals were an own goal by Chinwen Michelle Azolie, Linda Motlhalo, Gabriela Salgado and Mamello Makhabane while Obinujuwan Ikechukwu scored twice for the Super Falcons. 

The Nigerians went on the attack from the first whistle and were unlucky when Asisat Oshoala’s header went wide.

Three minutes later, Banyana Banyana took the lead through Azolie’s own goal. 

After that, the South Africans continued to attack and were awarded a penalty following a handball by Onome Ebi handled and Motlhalo made no mistake from the penalty spot. 

Two minutes later, the Super Falcons thought they had halved the deficit, but Desire Oparanozie’s goal was ruled offside. 

Salgado headed in Banyana Banyana’s third goal in the 44th minute following a good move by Thembi Kgatlana. Banyana Banyana led 3-0 at half time. 

The Super Falcons took the game to Banyana Banyana at the beginning of the second half and Ikechukwu pulled one back for the Nigerians in the 46th minute. 

Ikechukwu, who had substituted Ebonemiere Bokiri at the beginning of the second stanza, completed her brace with a long range shot which beat Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart in the 53rd minute. 

Second half substitute Makhabane, who came in for Hilda Magaia, scored Banyana Banyana’s fourth goal in the 86th minute. Makhabane converted a penalty after Motlhalo was brought down inside the box.
