Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has admitted that Chippa United whom they beat 2-1 in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Danie Craven Stadium in the Cape Winelands on Saturday evening, gave his team problems.

Stellies survived scary moments as the Chilli Boys launched attack after attack in search of an equaliser. This was after Stellies led 2-1 through strikes from Stanley Dimgba and Sammy Seabi’s own goal. Interestingly, Seabi equalised for the Chilli Boys before netting the own goal.

“Obviously, proud of the players for different reasons. They just showed good character, good fight,” the former AmaZulu and University of Pretoria coach said.

“It was a physical type of a game , route one type. They kept coming at us, lots of set-pieces where were really dangerous. We had a lot to deal with. We came out really well.”

With Stellies having collected 11 points from three wins and two draws, Barker is now proud of his boys.

“Extremely proud of the effort of the players. Back-to-back wins at the Danie Craven, back-to-back wins in the league.”

Stellies’ win over the Chilli Boys followed after they beat Cape Town City 3-0 last weekend.
