A goalless draw with Angola in the COSAFA Women’s Championship at the Madibaz Stadium in Gqeberha on Friday has left a bitter taste in Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis’ mouth.

The 58-year-old former Banyana Banyana captain voiced her disappointment after the match.

“I’m not only disappointed with the result, but I’m also disappointed with the performance,” Ellis said.

“The first half they were extremely poor, but I felt in the second half we were way better. We didn’t bring our A game. I felt that our entry into the final third and the final ball was very, very poor. Decision making was poor, too.”

Ellis is, however, optimistic that Banyana Banyana can still go further in the tournament as they have four points from a win and a draw.

“We had some opportunities. I felt at times we were on each other’s way. We are still in it, though, but we have made it difficult for ourselves,” she said.

Banyana Banyana face Mozambique in their final Group A match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday.
