FIFA has confirmed receiving a protest letter from the South African Football Association (SAFA) following Sunday’s 2022 World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Bafana Bafana. 

Ghana beat Bafana Bafana 1-0 courtesy of Andre Ayew’s penalty, which match referee Maguette Ndiaye from Senegal awarded to the Black Stars after he adjudged Rushine de Reuck to have fouled Daniel Amartey. 

As a result of the win, the Black Stars reached the final round of qualifiers. Both Ghana and Bafana Bafana finished with 13 points from six matches with the Black Stars having scored seven goals – one more than the South African national team.

SAFA was not happy with how Ndiaye’s officiating of the match thus they sent a protest letter to FIFA. The matter is expected to be heard on Tuesday, 23 November.
