Makhanda boxer and former South African champion Mziwoxolo Ndwayana has been offered a golden opportunity to fight for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa welterweight title in Namibia next month.
Ndwayana is scheduled to challenge WBO Africa welterweight belt holder Charles Shinima at the Helao Nafidi Hall in Ohangwena Region, Namibia, on Saturday, 19 March. Unbeaten Shinima from Namibia will be making his first defence of the title he won when he stopped Tanzanian Mohamed Mutalemwa in October last year.
“We are not sure of the date of our departure for Namibia as we are still waiting for clearances from Boxing South Africa. We have submitted all the necessary documents to BSA,” Bulelani Ndwayana, father and trainer of the Eastern Cape boxer, said.
The 29-year-old Shinima, a former Namibian junior-middleweight title holder, has registered eight stoppages in his last 10 wins. Shinima’s knockouts include that of South African boxer Junior Makondo whom he stopped in June 2018.
On the other hand, Ndwayana will go to the Shinima clash on the back of a win over Mardochee Kuvesa Katembo from the Democratic Republic of Congo in Pretoria in September last year.
