Keith Thurman scored a dominant unanimous points decision win over Mario Barrios at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, United States, on Sunday morning, South African time.

This World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight clash was characterised by 32-year-old Clearwater-based Thurman’s dominance as he landed big body shots, which rocked Barrios a number of times.

It was clear that Barrios came to Mandalay Bay to fight as he absorbed all the pressure from Thurman and at times landed some nice body blows. However, 26-year-old Barrios’ blows were not enough to subdue a game Thurman whom all three judges gave the nod with Steve Weisfeld scoring the fight 117-111 while both Dave Moretti and Tom Cheetham scored it 118-110.

As a result of the win, Thurman improved his record to 30 wins with 22 stoppages and a loss while San Antonio-based Barrios dropped to 26 victories with 17 knockouts and two defeats.
