Mamelodi Sundowns stunned Egyptian giants Al Ahly 1-0 in a CAF Champions League Group A match at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday evening.

Second half substitute Thapelo Morena scored the Brazilians’ goal when he smashed the ball into the net in the 86th minute.

Morena had only been on the field for five minutes after he had substituted Themba Zwane. This was the first time Sundowns, who have seven points following two wins and a draw, scored against the Red Devils in Cairo.

It was end-to-end stuff as both sides were out to win the match and in the end it was the Tshwane giants, who emerged victorious.

The Brazilians collected four points in the two matches – against Al-Merreikh and the Red Devils – they played in Cairo in successive weekends.

Meanwhile, Sundowns and the Red Devils are going to meet again on the return in South Africa on the weekend of 11-12 March.
