If you thought acquiring a Boxing South Africa (BSA) licence was tough in this financial year, then brace yourselves for a difficult task in the next fiscal.

Acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole has told Ink Sport that 50 percent will no longer be the pass mark anymore for people who aspire to become the boxing regulator’s licensed promoters, managers, ring officials, trainers and seconds.

Applicants who wanted to become BSA licensees went through the first and second phase of assessment and training courses this year. They also wrote tests to determine whether their knowledge of regulations and readiness to become licensees or not.

“Many people have received their licences after they passed during the second phase. They have familiarised themselves with the regulations,” Sithole said even though he couldn’t tell the exact number of people who got licensed.

It was only after the applicants obtained 50 percent and above in the test that their applications to become BSA licensees got approved.

“We are going to push the pass mark up next year. It will not be 50 percent, we will push it up to above 60 percent. People must get more than 60 percent if they want to work around the regulations. Actually, their knowledge of the regulations should be 100 percent. But we say it’s fine for now,” Sithole said.
