Bafana Bafana have set up a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament quarter-final clash against Cape Verde after they beat favourites Morocco 2-0 at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.

After a goalless first half, Evidence Makgopa broke the deadlock when he beat Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the 57th minute. That was Makgopa’s fourth goal in 14 Bafana appearances.

Trusted Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi missed a penalty in the 85th minute. The Atlas Lions were awarded a penalty after Mothobi Mvala hsd handled the ball inside the box.

The Moroccans were reduced to 10 men when Sofyan Amrabat was red carded for a second bookable offence following a foul on Teboho Mokoena in referee’s added time. Mokoena made it 2-0 from the resultant free kick.
