Former South African junior-flyweight champion Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha is on the move again as he has changed trainers for the umpteenth time even though this current one is said to be a temporary arrangement.

Tyirha is now training under Baba ‘Babes’ Makala in Somerset East after he started the year under Khangelani Jack’s guidance. He then left for Johannesburg where he was trained by former SA bantamweight champion Phumzile ‘Chocolate’ Matyhila.

Mdantsane-born Tyirha then left Matyhila for Vusi Mtolo in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni. After he returned home for the Easter weekend, Tyirha trained under former World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion Simphiwe Vetyeka.

“I can confirm that Tyirha is training in Somerset East at the moment,” Tyirha’s manager Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe said.

Makala confirmed: “Yes, Tyirha is training with us. He was brought to us by his manager Shakes.”

Tyirha has not fought since a shock eighth round stoppage loss to Malawian George Kandulo at the East Londom International Convention Centre (ICC) in July last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
